Part Two - Just the Facts
In our last issue, we discussed how to maximize your online selling potential by making sure to include high quality vehicle photos in your ad listing. In this edition of the OSM Automotive Newsletter, we’ll explain how providing accurate vehicle information can mean the difference between a quick sale and a stale ad. We’ll also show you how to create a unique ad description in order to further entice potential buyers.
First thing’s first; when preparing to sell a vehicle the key is to think like a potential buyer. If you were going to purchase a vehicle online, what information would you like to see in an ad? What sort of ad would catch your interest? How much reading would you like to do when browsing? Asking yourself these kinds of questions initially will help to put you into the appropriate mindset when constructing your vehicle ad.
Oftentimes individual sellers make the mistake of writing overly lengthy ad descriptions which contain several paragraphs of vehicle information. While providing detailed info is a definite plus, it must be understood that interested buyers are usually browsing dozens of vehicle ads at a given time. Ads which do not attract immediate interest or require a lot of effort to parse for information are at risk of being overlooked or ignored. Conversely, ads which contain little or no vehicle information are usually passed up as well.
Try to imagine your ad as an online resume for your vehicle. You want to provide accurate information which is easy for an interested buyer to view quickly and refer back to if necessary. One or two short paragraphs followed by a bulleted list of upgrades, features, and other sell points is a good way to structure the ad.
By far, the most important consideration when constructing your ad description is the accuracy of your vehicle info. When signing up for our service, our sales reps collected your essential vehicle information, which was then placed into your ad campaign. It’s always advisable to view your ad to make certain it meets with your needs. If your ad is inaccurate or if you are unclear about any of your vehicle’s features, than our customer service department is here to assists you with any and all aspects of your advertising.
